26 years old Alaskan TV reporter, Charlo Greene, quits her job while presenting a report on Alaskan Cannabis Club. After announcing that she is the owner of the shop she has been reporting about all this time, The Alaska Cannabis Club, Ms. Greene, proceeded to report that she is quitting and will be directing her energy to “fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska.”
The station’s news director apologized to viewers on the station’s website, adding Ms. Greene had been terminated.
In an interview, Ms. Greene said she wanted to bring attention to legalization while at the same time raising the profile of her business, which she owns under her given name, Charlene Egbe.
A spokesman for the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol in Alaska said the on-air announcement wasn’t tied to the campaign but had raised the issue’s profile.
A spokeswoman for Big Marijuana Big Mistake, which opposes the legalization measure, said: “We are shocked and disappointed at what has transpired. Our campaign has twice expressed concern to KTVA about Charlo Greene’s coverage.”
